It irritates me when people compare katanas and European blades as if they were different version of the same weapon. In feudal Japan, swords in combat were typically used to make single, lethal strikes to lightly armoured opponents.
In mediaeval Europe, swords were used for battering - fights were based largely on sheer attrition and endurance of multiple attacks. Combatants out-tanked each other.
European swords weren’t inferior or primitive, and katanas, while given far too much credit by weaboos, were flawless at the task they were intended for. Stahp.

I want to show this to all my friends who constantly fangirl over freaking katanas and put down longswords as being crude.
